간첩도 대통령 이름은 모를 망정 이 드라마는 안다면서요?

국내의 뜨거운 인기에 비해 외국에는 잘 알려지지 않은 것 같아 아쉽습니다만 

한국 드라마 팬 사이트 드라마 피버와 

커뮤니티 사이트 레딧에서 미생에 대한 반응을 모았습니다. 한국 직장 생활에 대한 논의가 흥미롭네요.

이건 한국에서 일하는 직장인들의 현주소인 것 같아. 사실 나는 한국 기업에서 일 해 본 적 이 없지만, 한국에 몇 번 가 본 데다가 한국 친구들이 많아. 여자들은 뭐랄까 약간 2등 신민인 것 같은 느낌이 들고 아직도 성적인 희롱이나 폭행에 대해서 법적으로 해결된 바가 없다는 게 눈쌀을 찌푸리게 만들어. 한국은 엄격한 계급 사회고, 그게 언어 내적으로도 드러나. 한국어는 거의 두 가지 언어라고 보면 되는데, 네가 말하는 사람이 너보다 높은 계급인지 아닌지에 따라 쓰는 말을 나눠야 해. 주로 그건 나이에 기반해. 한국 사람들은 다른 어느 나라보다도 1인당 알코올 섭취량이 많아. 이 소비자의 대부분은 한국의 평범한 월급쟁이들이야. 그런 면에서 이 드라마는 정말 한국 직장 생활의 완벽한 초상이야. 그래서 이 드라마가 완벽한 이유이기도 하지. 모든 게 진짜거든.

 

 

 

아마 첫 번째 에피소드를 다시 보고 싶어질텐데, 제작진은 확실히 주인공이 “사장 연줄”을 통해서 회사에 들어갔다고 해 놨어. 물론 그게 정확히 어떤 커넥션이었는지는 안 써있었지만.

 

 

 

This is a very accurate portrayal of work life in Korea. I have not actually worked in a Korean company but I have been there a couple of times and have many Korean friends. Women are pretty much second class citizens in Korea and while frowned upon not much is done legally about sexual harassment. There is also rigid hierarchies not only within Korean workplaces but even just built into the language itself. It's almost two different languages just based off of if you're talking to someone of lower status than you (usually based on age) or of higher status. Koreans drink more Alcohol per person than any other nation in the world. At the base of all this consumption is the regular Korean salary man. Overall an extremely accurate portrayal of Korean work life. Part of why this drama is so great. Everything is just real.

 

You might want to rewatch the first few episodes. They make it clear that he got into the company through connections, specifically to the Executive Director. They haven't revealed exactly what kind of connection it is though.

니 글이 흥미롭긴 한데, 나는 다른 국가보다 한국이 술을 더 마신다는 팩트는 못 찾겠어. 세계 보건 기구 WHO에 따르면, 한국은 세계 17위야 .

 

While many of your points here are interesting, I couldn't find any data supporting Korea drinking more than anyone else. According to the World Health Organization, they're 17th.

아마 그게 맞을 거야. 한국 사람들은 그냥 유럽 사람들만큼, 혹은 그보다 더 적게 먹는다고 알려져 있음. 다만 한국 사람들이 다른 점은 진짜 명실공히 1위의 폭음이라는 거지. 빨리 취하려고 노력하는데, 왜냐하면 사람들이 술에 취해야만 서로에게 좀 더 느슨해 진다는 거임. (직장 동료끼리 좀 더 감정 공유가 편해지고 그리고 더 친해져서 사기를 돋운다는 거야.) 그리고 바로 이게 문제임.

 

That's probably correct, Korean's have been said to only drink as much or even less than most Europeans. The difference is that Koreans are apparently #1 on binge drinking, aka trying to get drunk fast because that is supposed to make people loosen up around each other (coworkers can share their feelings easier and get closer to each other to boost morale in the working field) and that's where the problem is

저런 그거 완전 문젠데! 그리고 이게 한국 드라마가 묘사하는 바로 그거야.

 

That is a problem! And that is definitely what korean dramas describe.

저 드라마에서 술 먹는 장면을 볼 때마다 내 간이 다 움찔한다니까

 

나는 저런 세계에서 살아 본 적이 없어. 그래서 한국에서나 미국에서나 저 드라마가 얼마나 사실에 가까운지 궁금해. 예를 들면 성희롱이라던가, 엄격한 계급사회라던가, 비즈니스적인 협상 문제일 때 알코올 섭취라던가 그런 거에서. 그리고 원 인터내셔널이 도대체 뭐하는 데인지도 모른다는 걸 지금 알았음.

 

그리고 장그래의 부족한 스펙을 생각해 보면 어떻게 주인공이 이 회사에 발을 들였는지도 궁금해. 아마 CEO가 장그래의 바둑 기사 시절을 알던가 뭐 그럴 것 같아.

 

I think my liver flinches every time I see all the over consumption of alcohol in this show.

 

I've never worked in the corporate world. I'm curious how accurate, if at all, this show is compared to real life in Korea and in the US. The sexual harassment, the rigid hierarchies, the expectations of alcohol consumption in business negotiations. I also find I don't understand exactly what One International does.

 

I'm still unsure how Geu Rae (Yes) got his foot in the door of the company, given his lack of specs. I have a theory that the CEO knows of his Go background or something.

원 인터네셔널은 국제 무역 회사야. 자본과 이득을 얻을 수 있는 기회와 시장을 만드는 곳이지. 미쯔비시 상사를 생각해봐. 걔들은 단지 차 만드는 것 이외에도 많은 일들을 해. 위키 참조해. 나도 원 인터내셔널이 뭐 하는 곳인지 몰랐다는 사실을 지금 알았어.

 

One International is a trading/global sourcing company. They create business and opportunities that gain capital and profit for the company as a whole.

완벽하게 비슷하다고는 말 못하겠어. 나는 친척들과 친구들이 기억 세계에서 일한 적도 있고 아직 일하고 있는 사람도 있는데. 많은 변화들이 일어나고 있어. 특히 여성 근로자를 대하는 태도에서는. 사장들은 더 이상 직장 동료들에게 술 마시라고 강권할 수가 없어. (특히 여성 직장인들에게는 더더욱) 그리고 이 드라마에서는 매일 매일 술을 마신다고 묘사하는데, 실제로는 일주일에 한 두번 정도만 마실 뿐이야. 하지만 이 드라마는 진짜 한국 기업 사회에 대해서 그 무엇보다도 잘 표사한 드라마야. 진짜 이런 드라마를 본 적이 없어. 한 번도.

 

I wouldn't say extremely accurate. I have relatives and family members who have worked in the corporate world and still work in the corporate world. A lot of changes are being made, especially regarding female coworkers. Bosses are no longer allowed to force coworkers to drink (emphasis on female coworkers though) and the drama depicts them drinking almost everyday while it's more like once or twice a week in real life. However, it is the MOST accurate representation of Korean corporate life that I have ever seen in a drama, ever.

나도 사무실 근로자인데 솔직히 캐릭터들이 지금 당장 뭐에 직면하고 있는지 알 수 있을 것 같아. 그냥 조용히 캐릭터들을 응원해. 언젠가 그 모든 게 의미 있는 일이 될 거야. TVN이 되게 감성적인 드라마를 방영하네..

 

As an office worker, I can relate to what the characters are facing right now. I silently cheer them up, all this are going to be worth it someday. tvn  producing such an emotional drama

내가 비즈니스 업계에서 일 해 본 적이 없어서, 몇 몇 에피소드에서 나오는 갈등들을 이해하는 게 너무 어려워. 나는 이 드라마에서 남녀 문제를 다루는 방식이나, 얼마나 그런 게 어려운지 말해주기보다는 보여주는 방식을 택했다는 점이 마음에 들어.

 

그리고 나는 또 이 쇼에서 가끔 애니메이션을 사용하거나 혹은 다른 환상적인 장치들을 통해서 유머를 잘 표현해서 좋아해. 진짜 똑똑하단 말이지.

 

Having never worked in business, I sometimes have a hard time understanding what the conflict is in some episodes. I love the way they are addressing gender issues, the way they show instead of tell the audience how difficult it is.

 

I also love how this understated show occasionally uses animation or other fantastical elements in a way that almost increases the subtlety of it's humor. Brilliant.

10화 마지막이 진짜 감동적이었어. “이것은 아직도 바둑판 위다”라는 대사는 진짜 멋졌어. 내가 듣고 싶어하는 바로 그 말들을 이 드라마가 해 주는 것 같았어. 그리고 내 삶에 조금 더 감사할 수 있게 만들어.

 

The end of episode 10 really touched me. That whole "It's still baduk" speech was wonderful. It feels like this drama is always saying the things I need to hear and it honestly is making me appreciate life more.

이 드라마는 진짜 이 배우들이랑 스토리 라인을 어떻게 잘 살리는 지 알 수 있을 것 같아. 진짜 다음 화가 존나 기다려진다고 참을 수가 없다고

 

The series really know how to take care of it's cast and it's awesome storyline. It's just freaking amazing that makes you look forward to the next episode. Can't wait for the next one

진짜 박과장 캐릭터 존혐이야. 아무리 걔 과거 썰리 풀렸대도 진짜 동정을 할 수가 없음. 그러나 캐릭터한테 그런 깊이를 줌으로써 이 캐릭터가 무슨 만화영화에나 나올 법한 전형적인 악당 캐릭터가 되는 걸 막아줘서 좋다고 생각해.

 

Mr. Park is truly a character I can't stand, I couldn't sympathize with him even after we got to see a glimpse of his past. It is good though that they gave him some of that depth so as to prevent him from coming across as a cartoonish villain.

첫 화로 돌아가서 장그래가 요르단에 있던 장면을 봤어. 진짜 장그래 캐릭터가 지금 현재 상황에서부터 성장해서 저 장면까지 가는 걸 보는 게 너무 기대돼

 

I went back to the first scene, the flash forward where Gu Are is in Jordan. I'm eager to see his character development from the current shows to that scene.
